Tumeric Coconut Milk aka Golden Milk
Whether to drink cow's milk or not is one of those topics that causes a buzz in the alternative health community. I am not a milk drinker, never have been, other than in my ice cream or the occasional cheese of course (worst vices ever) so thank goodness for alternatives!
what are some good milk alternatives?
* Coconut Milk
* Almond Milk
And although many enjoy Soy Milk I don't recommend it (more on that later). There are more alternatives to choose from but the two above are my favorite. And since maybe drinking it by itself is a little boring... why not bling it up a little?! wanna know how? Make it Golden!
Why Golden Milk?
Tumeric can be found virtually in any supermarket in powder form (Spice section). It is also found in the ingredients list in curry powder. The properties found in tumeric are amazing as it contains curcumin which is a potent anti-inflammatory with cancer preventive properties. I love to add it to soups but I'd read before about you can make golden milk with tumeric.
I would rather use the root form than the powder I waited until I found some (powdered form is just as good). And yay! Found some! So while I work on my Traditional Chinese Medicine term paper for school I sip on this wonderfulness and already feel it making me smarter! Ok, just kidding. But what I do know is that it will aid with relaxation, boost my immune system, help digestion and most important to me helps reduce any inflammation process in the body (for all my spoonies!)
Here is a recipe you can follow that I borrowed from wellnessmama.com:
Turmeric Tea Golden Milk Recipe
Author: Wellness Mama
2 cups of milk of choice (almond, pecan, coconut and dairy all work in this recipe)
1 teaspoon Turmeric
½ teaspoon Cinnamon
1 teaspoon raw honey or maple syrup or to taste (optional)
Pinch of black pepper (increases absorption)
Tiny piece of fresh, peeled ginger root or ¼ tsp ginger powder
Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
First, blend all ingredients in a high speed blender until smooth.
Then, Pour into a small sauce pan and heat for 3-5 minutes over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
This may stain blenders and counter tops. The color isn't harmful and will eventually fade. Recipe can be halved or doubled if needed.
And remember as with any form of dietary supplement if you are using dietary changes or any therapy in a therapeutic form consult your primary health provider (especially if pregnant). Always do your research!
I hope you enjoy this recipe and it helps you stay warm, be good, look good and feel good to bee happy!
